Biography:
After graduating from Strathclyde University with a Masters Degree in Forensic Science with a keen interest in finger and footwear mark enhancement, Karen became a senior chemist in an environmental consultancy until 1993 when she became the Head of the Scientific Services Laboratory of Greater Manchester Police. During her time at GMP Karen took the lead nationally for the performance of Police Fingerprint Development Laboratories, publishing a Home Office Funded research project in August 2004. This report made 22 recommendations that were accepted by ACPO and currently form the actions of the National Fingerprint Board Laboratory Technicians Group, one being the setting up of a National Conference the first of which took place in May 2004. Karen has also represented Police Laboratories on the National Fingerprint Board Development Group and the North West Forces on the Police Scientific Development Branch Fingerprint and Imaging Working Group. Karen also formed part of the working group which formulated Fingerprint Laboratory staff CRFP registration criteria.
In August 2003 Karen became a Senior Lecturer at the University of Teesside lecturing in Crime Scene Science, Chemistry and Enhancement of Marks. In January 2005 Karen became the Scientific Support Manager of Derbyshire Constabulary and currently chairs the East Midlands Region Footwear & Intelligence, Laboratories and CSI groups. Karen is also the East Midlands Forensic lead for Forensic Procurement.
Karen is an active member of the Fingerprint Society becoming an elected council member in March 2003. Karen is the Education Co-ordinator for the Society and is currently working with NPIA in the setting up of a CPD Programme for Fingerprint Practitioners. |
