Biography:
Raul Sutton comes from Brighton and studied Biological Sciences at UEA followed by a PhD in Biochemistry at Edinburgh University. He subsequently researched with Professor Stuart Ferguson (Oxford) and John Walker (Nobel Laureate, Dunn Nutritional Research Institute, Cambridge) before undertaking an academic career at the University of Wolverhampton, where he has been for twenty years.

His interests focused on the nature of cellular metabolism. In 2002 Raul was tasked with introducing Forensic Science to the award portfolio at the University of Wolverhampton, subsequently becoming the Head of Forensic Science in 2005.

The Wolverhampton degree courses have received accreditation from the Forensic Science Society. In encompassing the subject change, Raul has developed a research interest in fingerprints. His current research includes the reliability of third level detail in fingerprint analysis, palmar flexion crease analysis and the use of fingerprints as tools for working conditions in the third world.

Raul is also on the management board of the Forensic Institute Research Network, charged with promoting regional structure. Raul hopes that his experience in higher education award development may help the development of the Society.
